HOW FREEDOM THAT LASTS® BEGAN
Freedom That Lasts® begain at Faith Baptist Church in Taylors, South Carolina in the USA. During the summer of 2010, God providentially brought several addicts across the path of Jim Berg—a member of Faith Baptist Church and a seminary professor at Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC. He began working with them individually but soon added Friday night meetings at the church. He wanted them to feel comfortable at Faith Baptist Church - a place where they would hear God's Word faithfully proclaimed and applied by the senior pastor, John Monroe, and a place where they would find welcome support from members of the church, and from the pastoral staff.
In the Spring of 2010 Pastor Monroe met with Jim and Pat Berg and Larry and Charlene Pierson to discuss the possibility of starting an addiction ministry as an outreach and discipleship ministry of Faith Baptist Church. Larry and Charlene had worked with local church-based addiction recovery programs their entire lives. Attendance at the Friday night meetings grew, and Larry and Charlene answered God's call to help the ministry mature.
Jim continued to refine the curriculum, and it was published in November 2011. Faith Baptist Church became the home base for Freedom That Lasts® and now seeks to help other churches charter the program to reach their communities with the good news that Jesus Christ is the only source of freedom that lasts.
In 2014, Pastor David Pruden (Lighthouse Baptist Church, Edmonton, AB) and Jim Berg began to discuss the option of a Canadian Headquarters. Details were finalized in 2015 and Freedom That Lasts® Canada became reality.
